About the Art Therapist

Naoko Takematsu  MA, MFA

Hello, my name is Naoko.  I am a registered Art Therapist / Art Psychotherapist with the Health and Care Profession’s Council (HCPC) and I am a Recognised Private Practitioner / Supervisor with the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT).  I specialise in trauma work.

After qualifying with an Art Psychotherapy MA (2008), I have delivered Art Therapy to young survivors of sexual violence, and to adults who suffer from complex mental health conditions.  My approach is based on psychodynamic principles, with adaptation of other relevant theories to meet individual’s needs.

I believe that everyone is different, therefore exploring each person’s world together and learning how they think is key to the effective treatment.  So, getting to know you (or your child) will be the first part of my work with you.

Just in case you are wondering, I am originally from Japan.  My home has been in the UK for more than two decades, and my Art Therapy follows the strict guidelines of HCPC and the code of ethics of BAAT.

I am fully insured and DBS checked at the enhanced level, to ensure safe practice with you, or your child.

If you have any enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
